Connecticut HUSKY Pregnancy Coverage: Complete 2026 Guide

Connecticut HUSKY Pregnancy Coverage.jpg

If you just found out you're pregnant in Connecticut and you're worried about how to pay for prenatal care, here's the good news: you probably qualify for free coverage through HUSKY Health, Connecticut's Medicaid program. If your family earns less than $76,550 a year (for a family of 4, including your unborn baby), HUSKY covers all your prenatal visits, ultrasounds, hospital delivery, and even doula services and 12 months of postpartum care, at no cost to you.

Many pregnant women in Connecticut don't realize they qualify for HUSKY. The income limits are much higher than you might think (up to $76,550 for a family of 4 in 2026), there are no asset limits, and coverage is completely free with no co-pays or premiums. Even if you're a non-citizen without immigration status, Connecticut offers HUSKY B Prenatal Care specifically for you.

In this guide, we'll walk you through everything you need to know about HUSKY pregnancy coverage in 2026: who qualifies, what's covered, how to apply, and where to get care, including at Enrich Health, a Black woman-led OB/GYN practice in Hamden and Bridgeport that proudly accepts HUSKY.

Do You Qualify? 2026 Income Limits

The first question most pregnant women ask is: "Do I qualify?" The answer depends on your household income.

HUSKY A covers pregnant women earning up to 263% of the Federal Poverty Level (FPL). That sounds complicated, but here's what it means in real dollars.

2026 HUSKY A Income Limits for Pregnant Women

  • Household of 1 (you + unborn baby)

    • Annual income limit: about $37,000

    • Monthly income limit: about $3,083

  • Household of 2 (you + baby + 1 other person)

    • Annual income limit: about $50,000

    • Monthly income limit: about $4,167

  • Household of 3 (you + baby + 2 other people)

    • Annual income limit: about $63,000

    • Monthly income limit: about $5,250

  • Household of 4 (you + baby + 3 other people)

    • Annual income limit: about $76,550

    • Monthly income limit: about $6,379

When you're pregnant, your household includes yourself, your unborn baby, and anyone else living with you. So if you're pregnant with one baby and have one other child at home, you count as three people for eligibility.

Most likely, you qualify. There are no asset limits, your savings, car, or home don't count against you. What matters is your monthly household income before taxes.

What HUSKY Covers: Everything You Need

Here's what most pregnant women want to know: what's actually covered? The answer is: a lot.

Prenatal Care:

  • All prenatal doctor visits (individual or group prenatal care)

  • OB/GYN appointments

  • Ultrasounds (dating scan, anatomy scan, additional as needed)

  • Lab work and blood tests

  • Prenatal vitamins (prescription)

  • Genetic screening

  • High-risk pregnancy management

Labor & Delivery:

  • Hospital delivery (vaginal or c-section)

  • Anesthesia (epidural, spinal)

  • Emergency interventions if needed

Doula Services (NEW!): As of July 2025, HUSKY Health covers certified doula services, including antepartum visits, continuous labor support, and postpartum visits. This is huge, doulas improve birth outcomes, but they've traditionally been out of reach for many women.

12 Months of Postpartum Care: One of Connecticut's best-kept secrets is that HUSKY covers postpartum care for a full 12 months (extended from 60 days in April 2022). This includes all postpartum checkups, mental health screening for postpartum depression, contraceptive counseling, treatment for chronic conditions, and lactation support.

Other Covered Services:

  • Dental care during pregnancy

  • Prescription medications

  • Mental health services

  • Substance use disorder treatment

What You Pay: Absolutely nothing. No co-pays, no deductibles, no premiums. HUSKY A for pregnant women is completely free.

HUSKY B Prenatal: For Non-Citizens

If you're a non-citizen or don't have immigration status, Connecticut has your back with HUSKY B Prenatal Care, launched in April 2022. This program covers pregnancy-related care for the unborn child, completely separate from your immigration status.

You can qualify with income up to 264% of the Federal Poverty Level, the same as HUSKY A. You get the same comprehensive prenatal, delivery, and postpartum coverage. No questions about documentation or status. Just coverage for you and your baby.

How to Apply: 3 Simple Ways

Ready to get coverage? You have three options.

Online: Visit AccessHealthCT.com, create an account, and fill out your application. You'll upload documents electronically.

In-Person: Visit your nearest Connecticut Department of Social Services field office. Find office locations at ct.gov/dss/fieldoffices.

What to Bring:

  • Proof of pregnancy (doctor's note, prenatal appointment confirmation, or pharmacy record for prenatal vitamins)

  • Proof of identity (driver's license, state ID, or passport)

  • Proof of income (recent pay stubs, tax return, or letter from employer)

  • Social Security numbers for household members (if you have them)

The whole process typically takes 15-30 minutes by phone.

Common Questions About HUSKY Pregnancy Coverage

Can I choose my doctor? Yes. You can select any OB/GYN, midwife, or other pregnancy care provider who accepts HUSKY. Enrich Health accepts HUSKY, so you're welcome to choose them.

What if I'm already pregnant or in labor? Apply for HUSKY immediately. You can get presumptive eligibility by phone and have coverage within the same day. Even if you're in active labor, you're covered. HUSKY coverage is retroactive, meaning they'll cover care from the first day of your pregnancy.

What if my income goes up? Let Access Health CT know, and they'll recalculate your eligibility. You may remain eligible at higher income levels, or your coverage might transition to HUSKY B or another plan. The key is reporting changes promptly.

Does HUSKY cover my other children? Possibly. HUSKY covers children under 19 in your household at income limits up to 211% of the Federal Poverty Level. Call Access Health CT to ask about your kids' eligibility.

What if I'm undocumented? You qualify for HUSKY B Prenatal Care, which covers all pregnancy and birth care regardless of immigration status. Your status doesn't affect your eligibility or your baby's coverage.

Will using HUSKY affect my immigration status? No. Medicaid (HUSKY) does not count against you for public benefits restrictions. Pregnancy care is a benefit you're entitled to use.

Can I use HUSKY at Enrich Health? Yes, absolutely. Enrich Health proudly accepts HUSKY and is specifically committed to serving HUSKY-eligible women in Connecticut.

Why This Matters: Breaking Down Barriers

Affordability is the #1 reason pregnant women delay or skip prenatal care. That's not just uncomfortable, it's dangerous. Prenatal care catches complications early, improves birth outcomes, and protects your health.

Connecticut's HUSKY program removes that barrier. You can access comprehensive, high-quality prenatal care regardless of your income. You can choose a provider who respects you and understands your background. You can get continuous care through pregnancy, delivery, and the first year after birth.

At Enrich Health, you get all this plus something extra: culturally responsive care from a Black woman-led practice that understands your needs and is committed to your health equity.
